BOOK CORNER

It gives me great pleasure to present what must be one of the most delightful Christmass stories I have ever read as my choice for the Christmass and New Year Edition of St George's News: 'An Angel Just Like Me' by Mary Hoffman.

This is the story of young Tyler, getting ready to celebrate Christmass with his family. Unfortunately, the Christmass Tree Angel has broken and will need to be replaced. Tyler has many questions:

"Aren't there any black angels?" he asks.

No-one could give an answer and so Tyler resolves to find a new angel, "One that looks just like me."

However despite thorough searching every day in all sorts of shops, he cannot find an angel that looks like him. Eventually he finds his friend Carl and explains the problem to him. Carl looks thoughtful.

On Christmass Day, Tyler sighs at the new Gold Star on the top of the tree but then Mum announces a late delivery from Santa...

This beautiful hard-backed book is made extra special by the stunning illustrations. An excellent book for the whole family to bring smiles and encourage thoughts.

This book will be on the Bookstall from December - do come and have a look at it.

An Angel Just Like Me (Francis Lincoln).. £9.99.
