NEW YEAR'S DAY RAMBLE

In spite of weather conditions, a dozen revellers turned out on New Year's Day to meet at Havant and take their annual "Hangover" walk enjoying the sea breezes at Langstone.

Although the wind still raged around the coast there was no rain and we reached The Ship Inn quite dry! There we had the usual pick-me-up and thus fortified, took our sandwiches outside in the shelter of the pub graciously allowed by the Landlord. What has happened to the "Old English" pub?

The sea was in full spate with waves washing over the walls as we made our way inland to the Mill. This was surrounded by waves whipped up by the wind, but we paddled along the path to Warblington Church, but had to abandon the beach walk altogether and return to Havant by an inland path. Although we missed our usual brisk walk by the sea and arrived back much earlier we were all fairly dry and the cobwebs had been blown away. Let's hope for some better walking weather for 1998.
