FINANCIAL UPDATE

As you read this the Treasurer will be busy preparing the 1998 accounts for independent examination by George Coleman, subsequent approval by the PCC on 25th February and adoption at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting on 21st March. I promised (or threatened!) to produce details of the finances as submitted to the PCC from time to time and this is appropriate at the financial year end. Remember the figures shown below relate solely to church business and are taken directly from my 1998 cash book and will change dramatically once the hall and all other church group finances are incorporated and accrual accounting adjustments made.

Looking back over events of the past few weeks the PCC coffee morning on November 7th realised £76.60 and the Bazaar on December 5th £1562.64, both for general church funds; the Youth Club firework night £95.52 for Naomi House Hospice and the Parish Party £97.62 for Nicaragua. David Palmer's sponsored walk totalled £347 for the repairs fund. The retiring collections during November raised £78.80 for the Church of England Pensions Board and £370.51 for the Honduras Hurricane Appeal. From the Wednesday coffee morning charity monies £100 was allocated to the Hurricane Appeal, £50 to St Dunstans and £50 to the Childrens Society. The Christingle Service realised £133.37 and Crib Service a further £43.26 for the Childrens Society to add to December's retiring collection of £134.28 for the same charity. Poem book sales have already exceeded £100 and investment income for the last quarter of the year totalled £1299.56. Expenditure included £80 for church words only reproduction copyright licence, £423 to include servicing of the two church gas boilers and the infamous reconnection of the cut off gas supply, and an additional £46.98 for the faculty. The annual photocopier bill was £688.93 nearly £300 less than last year.

And finally although the results will not really show up for some months grateful thanks are due to everyone who has increased their giving, covenanted or otherwise, in response to the recent Stewardship Campaign.

Linda Wainwright, Hon. Treasurer, P.C.C.
