FINANCIAL UPDATE

Just a short piece from me this month as I take a break from working on the annual accounts. The Diocesan Parish Resources Adviser has recently issued yet more guidelines to treasurers and secretaries including the fact accounts should not be presented for adoption at the A.P.C.M. as I incorrectly stated in last month's article. The annual accounts should be approved by the PCC (meeting 25 February 1999) and signed by the Chairman of the PCC Meeting (the Vicar) and one other PCC member, then presented for discussion only at the A.P.C.M. and no vote should be taken.

Now looking at my cash book entries the Mothers' Union Commissioning Service realised £40.13 for church funds and the retiring collection during January for St Luke's Hospital for the Clergy totalled £139.55. Another £55 worth of poem books have been sold and the superb concert by the Portsmouth Chorus on January 23rd including refreshment sales raised £229.57 net after £26 was given to the Chorus towards expenses. A most enjoyable evening and how interesting to mingle and chat with Chorus members during the interval.

Expenditure wise bills for the annual church insurance of £1,072.53, annual membership of the Royal School of Church Music £53, quarterly organ tune £87.78, lighting repairs at the church and Vicarage £104.07, piano tune £38 and palm crosses £18 have all been paid. John Johnson has again negotiated an excellent price for photocopier paper, £116.91 and we shall certainly need plenty to produce the annual reports for the A.P.C.M.!

Finally thank you to everyone who has taken the trouble to give me feedback about my "Financial Update" articles. It seems you find them interesting and informative which makes it all worthwhile. So I shall continue next month!

Linda Wainwright, Hon. Treasurer, PCC
