DID YOU KNOW?

The Waterlooville Mothers' Union branch has for the last ten years been linked in prayer and fellowship with a Branch in Cape Coast diocese, Ghana. The Branch is at the Church of the Holy Redeemer Agora Kwanyaku. In the past we have exchanged letters, gifts and prayer requests.

Following the aim of the Mother's Union to "help those whose family life has met with adversity" the members in the Cape Coast Diocese have targeted the problem of young single parent families for their project for 1999 and beyond.

An appeal was made to our Branch for support for a school for sewing - "ideal Motherhood Preparatory Centre" - to help victims of teenage pregnancy. A coffee morning was held and we raised £60 which has been sent via Mary Sumner House. An old church building in Kwanyako has been renovated and was opened last August. 45 girls have been accepted, some of whom helped with the construction work and next year they plan to accommodate some boys.

Special provision has been made for the babies in the Kwanyako Anglican School nursery whilst the mothers attend classes.

Bishop Quashie who commissioned the project was full of praise for all they had accomplished. A full page article about the project appeared in the Anglican World magazine of Michaelmas 1999 (p.24).

Should you feel moved to contribute towards this good work the Mothers' Union branch leader Mrs Winifred Mancz or Treasurer Mrs Ruth Loveman would be happy to receive your gift and forward it.
