1st January, 2000
The Ramblers of St George's Church
went on a walk today
to
celebrate the Millennium
and brush cobwebs away.
The day was fine after the rain
and twenty seven adults
came
with children six and dog to boot
we followed along our traditional
route.
Leaving Havant for the old railway
that takes us to the
sea
The children paddling in the stream,
which runs along the
lea.
Soon we reached our destination
and made a stop in the old
tradition
where we raised our glass and gave a toast
to land and sea
along the coast.
Then on we made our way again
Happy that we had no rain
so
along the beach we all did go
with youngsters running to and fro.
The sea was out, the tide was low,
no danger here for us to
go
where Tamarisk trees grew in a line
as they had done for a long, long
time.
But now we had to leave the beach
as Warblington was in our
reach
with ancient Church and Castle ruins
a noted site for all
historians.
Passing this place of other times
We used the roads built on
modern lines
Back to our cars in fine array
To end a lovely walk that
day.
