FINANCIAL UPDATE

Just time to write this report for the magazine in between working on the 1999 accounts.

General church funds have recently benefited by £295 raised by David Palmer's sponsored walk in October, a final figure of £1677 from the Bazaar on December 4th (8% more was raised on the day compared to last year), £50 from the Cantemus Choir concert on November 20th, £24 from the Organ Recital given by Rosemary Field on December 7th and £35 from the Badminton group. What a delight it was to see so many youngsters involved in making music at Sue Palmer's Pupil's Concert on December 11th - £175 was raised for the church.

Monies in the bookstall safe totalled £98, sales of votive candles topped £142 and investment income of £648 was a very welcome addition to funds at the end of December. The plate collection at Midnight Mass was £96 and the Christmas Day service collections £60.

On the Charity front £45.50 was sent to the Royal British Legion being half the collection at the Remembrance Day service on November 14th, and £105 was sent to Naomi House Hospice raised at the Bonfire night festivities at Glendene. November's retiring collection for the Church of England Pensions Board totalled £104.93 and December's for the Childrens' Society was £147.38. The Childrens' Society also received £38.25 collected at the Crib Service and £50 donated from the Wednesday Coffee Morning monies. £50 was also sent to Kingston Prison for their chapel window appeal from the Wednesday coffee morning charity funds. Leprosy boxes for the second half of the year totalled £25.35.

The cost of the Remembrance Desk and Memorial Book (£751) was met by donations. The cost of printing John Symonds book about St George's was £1100 and sales have so far reached £541. The PCC donated £50 towards the cost of the new splendid artificial Christmas Tree and Holly Sales amounting to £73.60 this Christmas continue to cover the cost of purchases for the Churchyard Gardens. It cost £72 to erect the new noticeboard and make the flagpole safe and secure after vandalism.

The Quota of £35289 for 1999 was paid in full and Roger Boyce's outstanding account of £2078 for Architects fees in connection with fencing, roofing and possible access improvements settled but only by withdrawing a further £3500 from reserve deposit accounts.

Wearing my other hat as Bible Reading Fellowship Notes distributor, the new BRF year commences with the May to August publication costing £2.85 per copy, a group rate increase of just 15p.

I have held over details of financial transactions that have already taken place during the year 2000 until my next article.
