My suggested Book for March is a title for Lent, When they Crucified My Lord by Brother Ramon SSF.
Commencing with Ash Wednesday through to Easter Day, this Book draws on the experiences of those who were near our Lord during the events of the first Easter.
The verse is printed out for each day, together with a comprehensive narrative ending with prayer and point for reflection.
There is a section on John The Beloved, and, in particular, 'Receiving Jesus' Mother'. The passage quoted, John 19 verses 25 to 27, is looked at again later through the eyes of Mary. In comparison, Brother Ramon recalls the last days of a fellow Brother to illustrate the 'companying with the dying' and of the 'precious privilege' to be there at such a time. Jesus nailed to the cross could not physically support and comfort his mother in her anguish and grief but John could and, as we know, did. Brother Ramon suggests time is taken to consider one's relationship with one's own Mother and Father or older, dependent friends. Further to allow own children or loved ones to provide care, thus letting go of stubborn independence.
Interesting insights are revealed, for example, in the perspective of Judas Iscariot. Brother Ramon points out that the Disciples address Jesus as 'Lord' but Judas uses the word 'Rabbi' or 'Teacher' thus placing the relationship on the level of instruction rather than one of relationship.
It is suggested that an hour is set aside each day, at the same time every day. This time to be sacrosanct. A worship space is also suggested, using candles, flowers, open Bible, icon or Cross and with a cushion or prayer stool. A few minutes to be spent focusing upon God first before starting on the day's meditation.
There is an excellent section at the end of the book for use with groups. (Seven weekly meetings). This is aimed as a guide so as not to limit spontaneity.
