FINANCIAL UPDATE

The PCC met on 2nd March and approved the examined (audited) accounts for 1999. Please let me know if you would like a personal full copy of the accounts rather than the summary being issued to the congregation for use at the APCM on April 9th. The PCC also agreed the church budget for 2000 which shows an anticipated overspend in the region of £6,000. The Diocese have produced a new form for display in the church porch containing some facts and figures about Diocesan expenditure and space to insert details about our own expenditure at St George's. Look out for the bright yellow document!

I have caught up with quota payments totalling £6,107 so far this year (excludes March) but only by withdrawing £2,500 from deposit reserves. A further £1,150 has been spent on work on the yew trees and in the churchyard and expenses of £30 to set up the Toddlers services met. The retiring collection during February for St Mary Axim Ghana reached £95.46 and book sales have risen to £880. The Portsmouth High School concert on February 16th raised £57.50 and the Organ Recital on February 28th £52.57 both for general church funds. These concerts were excellent and it is a great pity so few members of the congregation supported these musical events involving very talented young people. Sales of Mark Dancer's Organ cassette tape will go towards a repair to the organ costing £52.88.

Although the 1999 accounts are completed there is still more paperwork for the treasurer because the annual financial return required by the Diocese is now due and with John Millard I shall be attending a seminar about tax changes to giving schemes on April 8th, run by the Parish Resources Adviser Gordon Uphill.

Linda Wainwright, Hon. Treasurer to the PCC
