The walk in March was new to us all When 12 of our Ramblers
plus Nutmeg and ball Met at Wickham, a town with a square With shops
and a pub if you had time to spare.
We walked along the old railway line All was well, the weather
was fine Then under the trees and down below We espied a lawn where a
stream did flow, With tables and benches just right for us To have our
lunch without any fuss.
This really was a delightful spot With plenty of room for our
little lot Where we could sit and relax at our leisure Which gave us
all the greatest of pleasure.
As we made our way back to the trail We saw a notice pinned to
a rail "This garden was made to mark the "Millennium" A most kindly
thought was our opinion.
On with the ramble through vineyards and fields To enjoy the
views that walking reveals We passed close by a pheasant's plantation
Where the birds flew about in great agitation And further along we
found chickens and geese And ducks all a-quacking, disturbing the
peace.
Leaving this most agreeable scene We went on through the woods
with the trees turning green And the wood anemones in full array To
finish our walk on this lovely day.
Now back to the road that led to the square Where the Ice
Cream man was plying his fare It was just what we wanted, I must say We
really had had a beautiful day.
