OBITUARY

Phyllis Smith

Phyllis was born in Yorkshire but came to London when she was 16 to become a ladies maid. She later became a children's nanny and a nanny nurse. She met her husband Ken when she was 17, who was a driver for Victoria Wines. They married at St Mary's Church Ealing, West London in 1940 and had three children: Keith, Rodney and Julie.

When Ken was transferred to Waterlooville in 1962, they moved with their family to Maralyn Avenue where Phil has lived ever since. She re-trained as a nurse at the Q.A. hospital in 1965 and worked there until 1980, when she retired.

Ken died in 1987 and they shared 47 years of married life. She was a regular worshipper and communicant at St George's and she and her husband bought the sanctuary lamp by the statue of Our Lady and Child. Recently Phil was involved in an accident with a taxi at Asda's and she never really recovered from this. She went to stay with her daughter in Truro where she died. We send our sympathy and prayers to her family in their loss. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.
