FINANCIAL UPDATE

May I start my article this month with an important reminder that any cheques in connection with Church business due to be paid into the Church bank account must be made payable to P.C.C. St George's Waterlooville please.

A lot of transactions have taken place over the past few weeks. £372 was collected to commence our sponsorship of the African Child Trust scheme, October's retiring collection raised £141.90 for the Church Army, the collection at the Remembrance Day Service raised £109.40 of which half was forwarded to the Royal British Legion. General Church Funds have been boosted by the sale of votive candles £82, donations totalling £235 gift aided as appropriate, Trafalgar Day service collection £93.39, investment income of £157.19, a refund of £59.88 on our previous photocopier contract and photocopy sales of £60.42 (do make use of our new photocopier and help church funds at the same time). £73 collected on the coach outing to Canterbury was offset against the £263.34 cost of clearance work at the rear of the churchyard.

Posters for the bazaar and Christmas cost £40, extra Sunday bulletins to cover the new readings for special services cost £79.20, our Church Copyright Licence to reproduce works of hymns and songs annual fee £84, the new postal rack at the back of the church £97.70 (do remember to look and see if there is anything for you!), choir pay for October £18.60 and candles from Hayes and Finch £100.96.

Despite receiving a further quarterly refund of tax amounting to £1245.54 for July to September I still had to withdraw £2,000 from our Central Board of Finance of the Church of England deposit account on October 26th to maintain cash flow. Our financial situation was highlighted in the "What does our Church Cost" leaflet issued on November 5th to coincide with the Parish Resources Adviser, Gordon Uphill's address on Christian Stewardship. Please take time to read this leaflet and reconsider your stewardship position. Copies are still available on the table at the back of the Church if you were not at church on that day or did not receive a copy.

With every good wish to you all for Christmas and 2001.

Linda Wainwright, Hon Treasurer, PCC
