BOOK CORNER

A very new book for September, 'Landscapes of Light' by David Adam. An illustrated anthology of Prayers with a collection of astounding photographs by Robert Cooper.

The prayers are taken from four of David Adam's books, 'The Edge of Glory', 'Tides and Seasons', 'Power Lines' and 'The Open Gate' all published by Triangle, London. I especially like the Rising Prayer which begins: -

Thanks be to the Father
I arise today
He gives me light
He guides my way.

The accompanying photograph shows a boatman putting out to sea in the early morning, a shaft of day breaking the deep orangey sky.

In 'I have seen the Lord', the author encourages us to see God in everything: -

When the stars shine in the sky
When the streets so peaceful lie
When the darkness is so nigh
I have seen the Lord

David Adam: "There is always a great danger of becoming insensitive to the world in which we live. Sometimes we do not notice because we do not stop long enough to give our attention to what is there waiting to be seen..."

David Adam lives on the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, home to the Celtic Saints, Aidan, Cuthbert and Chad. He is Vicar of Holy Island and an author of many books.

Robert Cooper is Priest-In-Charge of Sadberge in County Durham and works for the Chaplaincy to the Arts and Recreation.
