BOOK CORNER

I have been enthralled by a most unusual book for Easter, giving a very different slant on the Easter story. In The Easter Angels by Bob Hartman, Guardian Angel, Candriel, is told to wait both for instructions and for a partner who will assist him in an unusual mission. The partner turns out to be Shakkath, the Angel of Death, but all is not as it might seem... and there is a moving twist at the end which makes the heart leap.

Author Bob Hartman also works as a storyteller for the Pittsburgh Children's Museum. This story first appeared in his Book, Angels, Angels all Around.

The illustrations are some of the most haunting I have seen. Illustrator, Tim Jonke, studied at the Art Centre College of Design in Pasadena.

The Easter Angels by Bob Hartman. (Lion.) 0 7459 3877 9. £8.99.
