THE JOURNEY *@!!%$!

We had a week in France. A nice week. We went by Catamaran. You may recall that it was withdrawn during July for engine repairs. One week later we were on it, having been told we would be late as the repaired engine had again broken down!!

When due to return we had a check-in time of 18.00, and reckoned we would be there, although we expected it to be a bit late.

At 18.00 we were at check-in, car tanked up, food for us and documents ready. We waited. At 18.30 a girl came and told us it was running late and we may have to wait about two hours. We went and bought some bottled water.

At 18.45 we checked in and got our tickets and passes, then put in a holding area where, at about 19.00 a girl came and said that the ferry had broken down and three out of four engines had failed and our sailing was cancelled!! They were looking into alternatives.

At 19.15 the girl came back with a form for 50% off our next booking, telling us that they had arranged a sailing for us - from Le Havre!! It is only 140 miles from Cherbourg so we only had to average about 70 or 80 miles an hour to catch it.

We were a bit early!! Our documents were handed in, but owing to the fact that the computer had already checked us in, it would not accept us again!!

The computer girl saved the day, and we finished up with club class tickets and two club class cabins - that was real luxury. We did at last get home at 07.00 Saturday, about nine hours late!!!
