OBITUARIES

Kathleen Hitchcock

She was known to most people as "Pip". Born in Tonbridge, Kent where her father was a draper. She married Ken Hitchcock in Tonbridge in 1940 and because of his work they moved around quite a lot in their early years. They came to Waterlooville in 1953 with Gillian and Edward their children, residing at their home in Ferndale from 1960. She was the wardrobe mistress for the Phoenix Players and had a great love of tennis, playing at Denmead until the age of 86!

She and Ken have 4 grandchildren and one great grandchild, her family was always important to her. They have been regular worshippers and communicants at the 8.am Sunday Eucharist for many years. We send our prayers and sympathy to Ken and his family in their loss. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

Marjorie Cowell

She was born in Gillingham, Kent in 1914 and trained as a hairdresser. She met her husband Freddie while he was serving in the Royal Engineers at Chatham and they were married in December 1937. They have two sons Grahame and Bryan, who both live abroad. She spent the war years in Yorkshire then moved to Portsmouth. After a short spell on army bases with Freddie, she went with him to Hong Kong in 1962 and became a nursery school teacher after which they returned to England and Waterlooville. She and Freddie have both been regular worshippers and communicants at St George's at the Sunday 8.am and weekday Eucharist. Marjorie was also a member of the Mothers' Union. We send our sympathy and prayers to her family. May she rest in peace and rise in glory. Her ashes are buried with Freddie in the churchyard.
