MUSICAL MATTERS

It has been suggested that some words about the Church Choir would be of interest so here goes! You all know we have a choir because on Sundays at 10.am you see them in procession and hear them lead the singing during the service. We are very fortunate to have a choir at St George's. In these days there are so many outside interests competing for people's time that even our great Cathedrals are in difficulties maintaining choirs and musical standards.

Our small choir consists of about six adults and eight juniors at the present time. They all give about 1½ to 2 hours for rehearsals every Friday evening, and of course time during Sunday 10am. Eucharist. The juniors receive tuition and guidance in all aspects required for RSCM qualification. At the same time they are now making an increasing and valuable contribution to our music. Last month they led the singing at the Taizé service, and often sing suitable Motets during communion at the Sunday Eucharist. I receive many words of thanks from members of the congregation for their work.

Without continuing support from parents of the junior choir, and encouragement from church members our work would suffer.

Advent and Christmas are near and we will be preparing special music. We want more choir members both juniors and also adults of any voice. If you cannot join us full time, at least come when you can as we start Christmas rehearsals, sing and enjoy, and find satisfaction when we do the Lessons & Carols and other Christmas services.
