Saint Bernadette

It was with interest that I read Bill Hutchings' article about Saint Bernadette in the April edition of St George's News. When someone makes their confirmation within the Catholic Church it is customary for them to take the name of a saint. My mother chose for me Bernadette. Therefore my name is Josephine Mary Bernadette. In April 1987 I was fortunate to go to Lourdes as a helper with the sick and disabled from the Sacred Heart Church (Waterlooville Parish), going first to Windsor, as we were meeting up with people from that Parish. The journey was made by coach - in fact two coaches in one called a JUMBULANCE. The right hand side was fitted with seats for the able bodied, and the left hand side with beds for the sick and disabled. There was also a kitchen and toilets on board. The journey was long and tiring, but worthwhile. Lourdes, for me, was uplifting, very moving and highly emotional. Perhaps, one day, I may return.
