As I walk through the country lanes,
I see them abundant with nature's gifts -
I gaze at the herbs, the fruits and flowers,
to be used to heal, to flavour or perfume.
Today these gifts are rejected
covered with herbicides, dust and fumes.
Things were different years ago,
these gifts were treasured and used.
it is we who reject these gifts,
who sit in cars hurrying by.
We crouch in rooms gazing at a screen.
it is not too late to respond,
nature still offers her gifts,
each year the earth renews.
