The Fete

Maypole Dancers
Maypole Dancing at the Fete on 21 May

Apart from the rain, my first St George's Fête was thoroughly enjoyable. I was allocated the bouncy castle for my stint, and soon discovered what pleasure was involved in seeing young children entering the castle fairly dry and clean, and exiting soaking wet and filthy dirty. However the last laugh was on me, as during all the festivities a hornet managed to make its way into the castle and I had to climb in on hands and knees to poke the insect to make it fly away. I went into the castle with my socks on, and spent the rest of the day making squelching noises.

When it became clear the weather was winning with the castle I moved onto the lucky dip, as opposed to the unlucky dip of the bouncy castle. Here again the weather played its part, and my memory of this was Candy and myself holding onto the gazebo to stop it entering Eastleigh air space. We then moved the stall inside, deflated the castle, and the sun came out to play. Typical.

When it was time to clear up and put away, I was able to answer the question How many people does it take to put a gazebo in a bag. Answer: 3 PCC members and a Vicar supervising.

A very enjoyable bazaar come fête, or was it all just a bizarre fate.
