Year Five Postcards

Year 5 pupils at Hart Plain Junior School re told the Christmas story in a series of postcards home.

"It was a very tiring journey. I had my baby and called him Jesus. We couldn't find a place to stay but a kind man let us stay in his stable. We used a manger as a cot for Jesus. It took a few days to get here. The baby and I are doing fine." Love from Mary.

"Guess what happened last night! An angel appeared then a choir of angels came and sang 'Glory to God'. The angel said that a baby had been born in Bethlehem and we should go and see it. We found him lying in a manger and his name is Jesus. He is God's baby. We left the sheep in the fields and they were still all there when we got back!" Jacob Shepherd.

"We have arrived in Bethlehem. Met King Herod (nasty piece of work). We found Mary and Joseph in a barn. It was a long and tiring journey following a star, bet the camels are tired. Gave the baby gold, myrrh and frankincense." Melchior.

"Hi everyone, just a quick note to say we have a new address. This is because King Herod killed all the babies under 2 because he was scared that Jesus was going to take all his stuff. Hope you are well, write back soon." Joseph, 256 Nile Ave. Cairo.

"It was a long journey and took several days. All the people were very kind to me while we were travelling. When we got to Bethlehem there were no rooms left and we have to stay in a stable. It's not very nice but it is dry and warm. I have had the baby and we called him Jesus. He is in the manger at the moment and all the animals are staring at him. Got to go now "! hope to be home soon." Mary.

"Sorry I had to leave without much notice. We were sitting round the camp fire watching the sheep when the sky was lit up with thousands of angels singing Glory to God. We had to go all the way to Bethlehem "! it's a very different life style to living in a field! It was worth it though. We found the baby in a stable, lying in a manger. He is very beautiful." Isaac Shepherd.

"Just arrived at Bethlehem. It has taken 2 years to get here. I've seen the new king "! and old king Herod (not a nice man!) I don't trust him. He says he wants to see the child but I reckon he wants to kill him. I really didn't like the journey "! my camel was grumpy all the time. Still got lots of bruises and need some sleep now. See you soon I hope." B.

"Dear Mum and Dad. Just writing to tell you we have moved again. King Herod was killing all the baby boys under 2 so we had to x?ee from the country. We will be back, I just don't know when." Love Mary.

Then there is always one who hasn't quite grasped it!

"Mary had her baby. We called him Darcy"
