The Tweenies

Take one Tweenie with some fab books on Kite Making, add more than a little expertise and plenty of lovely materials all provided for us to use, add a Choir Vestry full of eager Tweenies happily making Kites, and one month later, you get Tweenies flying Kites on Portsdown Hill, right? WRONG!

Well, the first part was spot on - Yvonne had all sorts of Kites for us to make, and every possible thing we could need to make and decorate them. But then, one month later, the intended launch night was a complete wash out - one of the many very wet May days... So, Plan B! Back to the Choir Vestry, and as if by magic Yvonne also happens to have Paper Aeroplane making up her sleeve too!

It has to be said, some Tweenies had a head start as they made Paper Aeroplanes the first evening as we had simply run out of room to all make Kites in April (have you tried not getting your tail in a knot with someone else's in that vestry? It's impossible!). Then again, those who made their Aeroplanes with Dawn at the helm (should that be cockpit?) reading through the instructions step by step also had a distinct advantage - much easier than trying to work it out for yourself!

The obligatory flight-off followed, with prizes awarded for the furthest and highest, the flooky prize winners were Anne Morgan, Jane Cook, Amanda Jones and Jules Shepherd. Thanks must go to Yvonne for coming up with not one but two evenings' activities, and thanks to Amanda for helping out with the refreshments.

So, after the previous wet Tweenie evenings, planning an evening of croquet at Jane R-O's on the longest day may have seemed to be asking for trouble, but the weather was fine, the croquet competitive and the attempts at boules not as impressive as those who demonstrated their abilities on the tennis court! As with the previous two evenings, what was really nice was the chance for relaxed chatter and banter. Thanks to Jane for such a hospitable welcome.
