Bishop's Lent Appeal 2008

St Nicholas’ Seminary, Cape Coast, Ghana.

In the year of the Lambeth Conference I propose to dedicate my entire Lent Appeal to our IDWAL link.  I hope this will be seen as a significant gesture of support for the wider Anglican Communion, and it will be of great benefit to the Anglican church in Ghana.

My intention is to finance the purchase of a good vehicle for St Nicholas’ Seminary.  All students are required to go on placement each Sunday and at present they are dependent on “tro-tros” (shared taxis with no reliable schedule) for their travel.  A minibus could do a weekly run around the placement parishes.  It could also enable groups of students to visit parishes and schools in order to foster vocations and to offer a pastoral and teaching ministry.  I am assured that there are the necessary mechanical skills among the student body to keep the vehicle on the road once purchased.

If there is any surplus money after the purchase of a new vehicle, I am also exploring the possibility of setting up a bursary fund for seminarians.  The cost of seminary is about £2000 per year, which is beyond the reach of many potential ordinands.

Kenneth,
Bishop of Portsmouth
