Tea for two

On Wednesday 16th July St George’s Hall witnessed a fantastic sight as children from Hulbert School visited to show off a grand array of costumes which they had made during school time. The costumes theme was Icarus and the children paraded in the church grounds and among an audience in the hall.
The audience for this event were eighty or so older folk from the parishes of Crookhorn, Purbrook, Portsdown, Denmead and Waterlooville who had been invited for a special Cream and Strawberry tea. The original idea was to have the tea in the grounds but the strong wind on the day made this impossible. However the next best thing was to use the hall and the visitors were delighted to be able to see and talk to the children.

The special tea was the idea of the churchwardens from the local Church Kairos partnership and was a great success. Each church provided a share of the tea and the St George’s kitchen was pushed to its limits to provide crockery etc for the occasion. Some wash up afterwards!

The great success of this was measured by the many complimentary comments and letters received and this has prompted Churchwardens to organise a similar event next year.
