We are delighted to be welcoming the renowned Hampshire Police Choir for their first appearance at the Waterlooville Music Festival.
The Choir originated in Portsmouth during the Second World War and was soon in great demand raising morale and fund raising for restoration of the heavily bombed city. Many concerts were given with the Band of the Royal Marines, and the Choir featured in BBC radio broadcasts, and after the war with radio appearances on "Friday Night is Music Night". In 1967 the Choir took on its present name and since then its size has remained around 60 members all serving or retired police officers and others associated with the force. The Choir has performed at numerous notable venues during its history, including The Royal Albert Hall, Cardiff Arms Park, the VE Celebrations in Hyde Park before the Royal Family, Heads of State and an audience of around 200,000, Winchester Cathedral, and on BBC's Songs of Praise. In October 2008 the Choir will be taking part in the 21st Festival of Male Voices at the Royal Albert Hall, London.
