The Band of the Hampshire Constabulary, which today has a membership of some sixty musicians, was formed as the Southampton Borough Police Band in 1895.  It took its present title on the amalgamation of the Southampton and Portsmouth City Forces with the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary in 1967.

The Band continues to promote the Police Service to the community and travels extensively in and around the Force area, playing over 30 engagements per year, to the benefit of many charities and organisations.  In 2008 the Band helped raise nearly £10,000 for local charities by giving concerts throughout the County.

An amateur concert wind band, the group comprises serving and retired officers, police staff of the Hampshire Constabulary and their relatives.  In order to maintain an instrumental balance, there are also some valued honorary members.

2006 saw the band’s first visit to Malta for the Annual Police Week.  They made a successful return visit to Malta in July 2008.  The Band has made numerous visits to the USA & travelled extensively through Europe.  In November 2007 & 2008 the Band were guests of the Royal British Legion and played at the Somme Remembrance Services.

This summer they follow in the footsteps of the Hampshire Police Choir (who we welcomed last year) by joining us at the Waterlooville Music Festival for the first time.
