PARISH RAMBLE, BARBECUE AND EVENSONG

Following on from the success of last year's experiment, it was decided to hold another sponsored ramble, with a barbecue and evensong in the Queen Elizabeth Country Park. This year, there was a circular route, which made arrangements easier for participants to return to their cars. The 9 mile followed the route of the South Downs Way, past Sunwood Farm, and on through West Harting woods, eventually joining the Sussex Border path. The 6 mile route broke off just before Sunwood Farm, heading past Ditcham Park School, and met up with the other route just before the railway line near Woodcroft Farm. The route then took us to the Red Lion public house where those who walked the 2 miles would start. The route then followed the Staunton Way back to the Country Park for Evensong, and a barbecue. Unbeknown to me, there was a "rambling reporter", Sarah Hewitt, whose wrote about the ramble, her report appears above. (Page 26).

Once again, we had glorious weather for the day, and with over 80 at Evensong, this must be a record! (Last year there were 62!). The barbecue was very welcome after such a long day, and this made a profit of £78. Total takings from the event were around £548, which will be increased by approximately £80 once the tax is reclaimed from tax paying sponsors.

It would be wrong of me to list everyone involved in helping out on the day, because I'd probably forget someone. A very big thank you to you all - you know who you are.

Next year will provide us with an even bigger challenge to beat this year's takings - hopefully we will all respond as one big church family with even more people getting involved.
