OBITUARY

Hilda Spilsbury (1910-2001)

Hilda was born in Rochester where her father was a bargemaster carrying timber on the river Medway.

She was very active in the life of St Nicholas Church, next to the Cathedral, where she was baptised and confirmed. In her early days she ran the Sunday School, was leader of the Girls Friendly Society, organising their camps, plays, concerts and other activities.

She met Reg Spilsbury, a friend of her brother and they were married at St Nicholas Church in 1937. They moved to Portsmouth soon after their marriage where Reg was a Solicitors Clerk and came to Elmwood Avenue in Waterlooville in 1952.

Reg died in 1984 and Hilda continued living in the same house until her death in October.

She was a regular worshipper at St George's and in recent years has received the Blessed Sacrament at home. She was a cheerful Christian lady all through her recent ill health and asked that her funeral should be "all happiness and no tears".

We send our sympathy to her sister Rose in her loss. May she rest in peace and rise in glory.

M.F.
