FINANCIAL UPDATE

Church work seems to be one long round of meetings at present and one was with the Diocese to seek advice about which of our investments to realise in order to close the parish loan scheme and repay £12,360 by December 1st 2003 under the terms of the two year agreement with members of our congregation. Another meeting was with Feri Eshraghi from Morris Palmer, Chartered Accountants, of Stakes Hill Road, who has agreed to examine the parish accounts for 2003 for us free of charge. We are currently in the process of formally accepting his most generous offer. Thank you too to Bridget Oberholster for putting us in touch with Morris Palmer as the result of a plea in the Sunday Bulletin.

The annual Treasurers' Meeting is scheduled for September 29th when next year's Diocesan budget will be discussed. The Quota has been renamed the Parish Share and I would like to draw your attention to an excellent and informative article about finance in the September edition of the Pompey Chimes.

Looking at my cash book, sponsorship from the July walk has reached £296, plant sales realised a further £88.40, magazine advertising £115, and the tax rebate for the second quarter of 2003 £1,905.54. The retiring collection for the Rowans during August was £161.06 and a total of £375 has been sent to St Mary Axim Ghana, our link parish, and £39.35 to the Society of the Holy Cross (Mission Direct).

Wine and candles recently purchased cost £187.28 and wafers £23.50. Both the church and hall pianos have been tuned at a cost of £40 each. And finally, visiting ministers' fees for August total £344.40 prior to starting the interregnum and yet more meetings.

Now let me see the next meeting is on.....!

LINDA WAINWRIGHT
Hon. Treasurer to the P.C.C.
