The Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Waterlooville

A talk by Jennifer Dalmeny on Save the Children Fund.

‘Save the Children’, as it is often known worldwide today, started many years ago. We often hear the words ‘Called by God’ and yet we are slow to answer that call and perhaps are hesitant in our answer. Yet someone did just that! Starting out as a Christian charity, seeing the great need for the children turned to meeting an unknown world, the poverty, the orphans, the quality of their childhood, often badly affected by the adverse climate in which they lived. Save the Children spread worldwide, those called to take their skills to teach, to nurse, to start new projects in many practical ways. To change the darkness in many young lives. To help in natural disasters, and caring for those in need. They do not go to seek pleasant postures and often have to accept the risk of failure in their work and the lack of comfort. They do not go to seek easy praise but to serve and to dedicate their lives to the need of others.

We all know the Bible words “Suffer little children to come unto me and forbid them not for such is the Kingdom of Heaven.” Perhaps, can I dare say the modern words today could be “Save the Children.”
