Coffee Morning for the Cakes for Brakes Wheels appeal

The Mothers’ Union held a Cakes for Brakes coffee morning in the church hall on Wednesday 24th October. We had cake and Bring & Buy stalls, a raffle and MU merchandise was available.

£100 was raised to help with transport costs for MU helpers abroad.

October meeting

Inara led the service at our October meeting and after the notices we had a very informative quiz prepared for us by Andrew Clark.

This was based, as it was St Luke’s Day, on his life and ministry.

We finished, as usual, with tea and biscuits and cake.

Mothers’ Union Fashion Show

On 4th October the Mothers’ Union (Havant Deanery) held a Fashion Show in St George’s Church Hall.

The 70+ people who came were served with wine and nibbles as they arrived, and then settled down to watch MU members modelling skirts, trousers, jackets, dresses and tops.

Elaine Gray, from Travelling Trends, described the clothes each of our ladies was wearing, and after the show there was an hour for us all to ‘try on and buy’ anything we liked.

A total of £657 was raised for AFIA (the Away From It All Holidays Scheme).

It was a really successful and most enjoyable evening.

MU Quiet Day, 15th November

Fourteen MU members met at Jennefer’s house at 10.am, and after coffee, Barry and Sue Smith led us through our “Quiet Day”, its theme being Unity.

During the day we had a reading, a quiz on the origins of “the twelve Days of Christmas”, there were books to browse through, discussions, and we were shown how to make small boxes from Christmas cards.

With a break for lunch and chat, and Communion to finish, we all had a most interesting and enjoyable day.
