The Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Waterlooville

Before the branch’s AGM, on Wednesday 20th February, St George’s Mothers’ Union held a coffee morning with ‘bring and buy’ and a raffle, in aid of AFIA (the Away From It All holidays). A total of £75 was raised for the scheme.

At the February branch meeting Margaret Symonds spoke on the Mothers’ Union theme for this year, “Will you help us grow?”

She explained that membership is falling, except in Africa, and that increasing our numbers would make the Mothers’ Union more effective in its important work.

We are a valued voice on Womens’ and family issues - Parliament sends the Mothers’ Union papers for discussion in order to gain its views, we have a representative on the General Synod, and we are involved with many local projects.

There will be two further branch meetings during the year based on this theme in which we will explore how we can best use our gifts and talents.

Our meeting finished with a short, very interesting film on Mothers’ Union members working in Africa.
