The Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Waterlooville

To avoid confusion and upset, please note the following ways in which St. George’s Church keeps memorials for departed loved ones. There is no automatic link between the various lists and it is the responsibility of concerned families to make sure names are added to the lists.

Anniversary List. Names of the departed are read aloud in Church and prayers offered on the Sunday and Wednesday before the date of death. To make sure a name is included please give the details to Lesley Handy.

Memorial Book. Near the piano in Church is a book in which are written names and dates of loved ones. The page is turned every day. To have a name added please give the relevant details to June Diaper. Donors of memorial gifts are also recorded in this book.

All Souls’ Eucharist. A Requiem for the Departed is offered each November (this year November 1st) and names are read aloud. A list for names will be on the book table at the back of Church nearer the time. Names are not carried forward from one year to the next so please make sure your loved one is included.

Annual Memorial Service. This takes place just before Christmas (this year December 16th) and families whose funerals have been taken by St. George’s clergy will receive a personal invitation. Names of the departed are read aloud and candles lit. To make sure a name is included please write it on a star and hang it on the Memorial Tree - usually in Church from the beginning of December.
