The Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Waterlooville

Glendene Proms 16th July

This was a great evening despite having to be transferred from Tony and Jane’s garden to a hastily transformed Church Hall.

We ate our picnics, enjoyed the music, enthusiastically sang and waved our flags and were even entertained by some expert Bollywood dancing.

Film Club July 13th – Captain Corelli’s Mandolin with reluctant Italian warriors stationed on the Greek Island of Cethallonia, more interested in making music than fighting a war, containing one graphic scene of brutal slaying, reminding us of its wartime setting, but ending with the mandolin player refinding his love amidst the devastation of a recent earthquake.

Film Club August 17

This was another WW2 film (made in 1958) this time with Americans and in the South Pacific.

The “Invisible Orchestra” was in full swing playing many well-known songs I had forgotten belonged in this film.

Only one sad moment – when the brave young Lt. Cable was killed in action, otherwise a beautiful love story with a happy ending.

On Sunday 11th September Peter and Eileen Oades celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary and are shown here cutting the anniversary cake, with their card from HM The Queen alongside.
