The Parish Church of St George the Martyr, Waterlooville

What has 101 spots?  Yes, you probably know the answer to that one.  But what does 101 thousand good deeds every year?  Good Neighbours groups.  Can’t get out to shop?  Don’t worry, we can help.  Can’t get to a medical appointment easily on public transport?  Don’t worry, we can help.  Can’t get out to change your library book, collect your pension or collect your prescription?  Don’t worry, we can help.  Fed up with being in the house on your own with no-one to talk to?  Don’t worry, we can help.  Who are we?  We’re the Waterlooville and Purbrook Good Neighbours Group.

Mrs F lost her husband recently and then suffered a stroke which left her unable to move from an armchair.  She depends on carers.  We are able to do her shopping, and make time to have a cup of tea with her.  This may not sound much, but it makes a big difference to her.

Mrs G is very unsteady on her feet.  We took her to QA, stayed with her as far as the consulting room, and took her back to her flat: “as the hospital is so huge I would have panicked and not found my way out if it weren't for you! You all do a marvellous job, thank you all as volunteers.”

You could be one of our helpers.  We do not ask for a regular commitment, you choose what you want to do and when you want to do it.  Some of our volunteers do 6 tasks a year, others do 50 – you choose.  Expenses are paid, but the real reward is when someone says “thank you.”
