Church Auction

This important fund raiser took place on Saturday 18th October.

Numbers attending were a bit thin, but thanks to a good number of proxy bids in the background the numerous items and services available for auction sold well and raised a total of £1,300, not too far short of the previous auction held a couple of years ago.

Many thanks to all the hard work put in by Jane Rice-Oxley in organising the event, and Tony as the Auctioneer.

Barn Dance

The Bursledon Village Band led the proceedings on Saturday 15th November, in a much enjoyed evening of Barn Dancing with an included supper.

The event raised £115 each for St George’s and Naomi House Children’s Hospice.

Film Club, November 2014

Our film was The Other Boleyn Girl starring Natalie Portman, Scarlett Johansson and Eric Bana, the story of Mary, sister of Henry VIII’s wife Anne.

Mary is portrayed as gentle and obedient, persuaded by her ambitious family into becoming mistress to the King.

Anne, ambitious and scheming replaces her in the King’s affections, but discovers that her wit and beauty mean nothing when she fails to bear him a male heir.

Reconciled to her sister, Mary pleads in vain for her to be spared, but both Anne and their brother George are executed.

Mary leaves Court and returns to the country and the peaceful and safer life she yearns for, with William Stafford.
