Book Corner

It doesn’t seem possible that we are now nearly half way through Lent.  Many of us are using this year’s Lent Study book, ‘Draw Near’ an excellent resource from Church House Publishing.

Here are a few other suggestions for your Lent and Easter meditation and study.

The Wondrous Cross: Real Life Reflections from the Transfiguration to the Cross by Will and Lorraine Triggs

With a gentle poetic and pastoral touch, Will and Lorraine Triggs journey through the life of Jesus from the transfiguration to the cross.  These heart-warming and uplifting personal stories interwoven with Scripture will help you ponder the beauty and wisdom of the gospel in the run-up to Easter. A daily reflection and Scripture reading provides even more to take with you into each day.

Meeting God in John: A Companion for Lent, Holy Week, Easter and Beyond by David F. Ford

Meeting God in John explores what the Gospel reveals about God through the person of Jesus Christ.  Essential reading for anyone seeking a richer grasp of the gospel message.  It will leave you with a renewed appreciation of and enthusiasm for John’s writing, and the desire to return to it over and over again. Ford’s straightforward and illuminating approach also makes it eminently helpful for new Christians just starting out on their own faith journey.

The Whole Easter Story:  Why The Cross Is Good News For All Creation by Jo Swinney

In this Lenten journey, Jo Swinney explores the broader impact of the Easter story on God’s relationship with creation. Through Bible readings, reflections and stories from A Rocha’s global conservation efforts, discover how the cross transforms not just our own individual connection with Jesus, but also our relationship with each other and our world.

Glimpses of Glory by David Bryant

Facing terminal cancer, David writes powerfully about his life and moments when he encountered God in unlikely places: a prison; at the bedside of a dying child; and in Bible passages that were brought to life in his own experiences.

Walking with God: 40 Daily Reflections by J. John

“What does God want from us?” asks the prophet Micah, a question that resonates through time.  These 40 devotional readings aim to guide us on our life journey, often framed as a road we must travel.  We commonly describe our lives with phrases like ‘encountering obstacles’ or ‘facing uphill struggles’, highlighting our search for direction. This collection serves as a practical guide for walking the path of life alongside God.
